Sodium Dodecyl Benzene Sulfonate (SDBS)
Sodium Dodecyl Benzene Sulphonate
Sulnate® SDBS (LAS)
Sodium Dodecyl Benzene Sulphonate is one of a group of salts of alkylbenzene sulfonates used in cosmetics as surfactant-cleansing agents. Sodium Dodecyl Benzene Sulphonate is soluble in water and partially soluble in alcohol, with dermal absorption dependent on pH. Docedylbenzenesulfonate salts are not toxic in single-dose oral and dermal animal tests, and no systemic toxicities were observed in repeat-dose dermal animal studies.
Sodium Dodecyl Benzene Sulphonate is a class of anionic surfactants, consisting of a hydrophilic sulfonate head-group and a hydrophobic alkylbenzene tail-group. Along with Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate they are one of the oldest and most widely used synthetic detergents and may be found in numerous personal-care products (soaps, shampoos, toothpaste etc.) and household-care products (laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, spray cleaner etc.).
